Ship Management Supervision

With a background as Senior Officers from sophisticated vessels as well as working directly for shipowners we have an Owners mindset in our performance.

We have extensive ship management experience and can take care of the Owner’s interest and assets when outsourcing ship management by follow up of technical management, charters and pool partners.

We will always follow sound practices of ship management, and we will protect Owner’s interest in terms of asset value maintenance and cost management.

We strongly believe that a close follow up with appointed Managers will give an extraordinary benefit and make all parties better.

Pre-purchase Inspections

Bergen Maritime Consultancy AS performs pre-purchase inspections. This type of survey is carried out in ships sale/purchase transactions where time is a very limiting constraint and offers are valid for a short period only.

In such a case a so-called “Superficial Survey” to evaluate the condition of the ship and its associated machinery, has often to be performed at very short notice. This survey based mainly on visual observations of parts of the ship during a relatively rapid tour.

The superficial condition survey will follow the ‘international institute of marine surveyors’ guidelines enabling the customer to formulate his own opinion regarding the condition of the vessel, over and above that of the opinion reflected by the inspector, based on the report and numerous additional photographs and photocopies supplied.

On customer request the specific ballast and cargo tanks can be included in the survey as well as a more thorough inspection and evaluation of performed maintenance for the vessel and its equipment.

Condition Surveys

Bergen Maritime Consultancy AS performs condition surveys to enable managers to determine whether entered ships conform to acceptable standards.

Bergen Maritime Consultancy AS provides a comprehensive survey to ascertain the physical condition of the vessel and the effectiveness of the onboard management.

If deficiencies are found, the surveyor will provide the Master and/or Owners’ and/or the principals’ representative with a list of items in need of rectification.

In case of deviations from safety procedures operations will be stopped and corrective action taken, upon request followed by crew training. Included is the check of correct use of PPE (personal protective equipment) and the various checklists in use: SSSCL (ship shore safety checklist), checklists for STS (ship to ship) operations and  ”tank entry permits”.

All our inspectors are available on short notice and will stay on board, if required, from gangway down until departure.

Cargo Supervision

Bergen Maritime Consultancy AS and partners can provide cargo supervision on board your vessels were required.

We may assist vessels crew in order to ensure smooth and safe cargo operations. Especially during busy port calls we see that the amount of work to be handled by the chief officer is often simply too much to be safely handled by one person, who also has to comply with STCW work and rest hours.

Our experienced cargo superintendents, who sailed for many years as master and chief officer on chemical tankers, can act as reliever and take away a part of the excessive workload from the Chief Officer. They can handle and assist in communication with shore personnel, give advice on and organize the cargo operation.
